Today is World Kindness Day….which just might be the PERFECT excuse to fire up your creativity and get to work making something that’ll brighten up someone else’s day.

And while the primary intention of an act of kindness is being helpful, friendly or considerate towards someone else....let’s take a quick pivot in the direction of how it has the potential to benefit our own creativity…..

Acts of kindness help us feel good, reduce our stress and have the potential of boosting our confidence. I think we can all agree that those elements and shifts go a long way in putting us in the mood to CREATE.

I’ve also found that when I’m making something for someone else...whether it’s a homemade card, painting or handwritten note I’m way LESS likely (if at all) to be critical of what it is I’m creating. My focus instead is on that person...and why they matter to me and why I want them to know that I’m thinking of them.

Anywho....back to how we can use our creativity to spread some kindness today...here are some ideas to get your brain warmed up....

✨Write a handwritten note to someone you know or for a complete stranger. Share why they matter and how you’re grateful they’re apart of your community.

✨Create a mini piece of art - a mixed media collage postcard, a tiny painted canvas or a poem. Leave it in a coffee shop or in your lunchroom anonymously for someone to find and take home with them (an idea from @hoto_art_therapy )

✨Write a review on a fav business’, artist’s or community organization’s page and get creative by sharing how much they mean to you, how they’ve inspired you or what you love about their work.

✨Set a timer & use those creative thinking skills to brainstorm a list of 5 ways you’ll spread kindness today...ready, set...write on!

Since we’re talking kindness don’t forget to turn it towards yourself. Instead of allowing thoughts like “I’m not creative enough” or “I don’t know enough” to fill your mind, choose to be STUBBORNLY KIND.

Remind yourself that you have creativity inside you & you can begin with that.
