Exploring What it Means to be Consistently Creative

Do these beliefs on what it means to “be consistent” with creativity sound familiar?

“I find structure and consistency as a creative person really hard.”
“I just can’t be consistent.”

Do these sound familiar to you?
I’ve said these things to and about myself many times before to

It’s possible that we believe this about ourselves because…

...A boss, parent or teacher told us that….

...Or we’ve been comparing the way we create to our friend or fav artist...

...Or maybe we’ve been setting unrealistic expectations and forcing ourselves to be more consistent with our creative time and that approach just isn’t working.

What if instead of letting these beliefs become part of our identity we got curious about them and how we’ve created in the past?
I wonder how much more grateful we might feel for the progress we have made.

I wonder what we might discover about our unique creative rhythms and the way we like to express ourselves.

What might happen if we allowed ourselves to gradually progress towards having a consistent creative practice?
I wonder how much kindness we might give ourselves through a gentler process and softer approach to our creative time.

What if we ditched the rules and gave ourselves permission to imagine how we want our creative practice to look and feel?

I wonder how much joy, play and trust that would invite in.

I believe that consistency and creativity can co-exist, but with a lot of help from our friends’ gentleness, imagination & self-exploration….

So, the next time you notice yourself saying something like…
“Why can’t I be more consistent with my creative practice/routine?!”

I invite you to think about how you can approach consistency with more gentleness and imagination, exploring questions like…..

What do I want my relationship with creativity to look and feel like?

Aside from consistency, what else would support me in having that kind of relationship with creativity?

What do I believe being more consistent with my creative practice will allow me to receive or experience?

What are my intentions for my current creative practice/project?

What kind of consistency would help me honour those intentions?

That way you can use your own inner knowing/wisdom to guide you in creating and expressing in your own unique and consistent way.
