A new season: A new PLAYLIST

Earlier this month I finished reading the book Play - How it Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination and Invigorates the Soul. I read most of it sitting on my front porch and at one point I even had a red admiral butterfly gracefully land on the front cover and hang out for a few moments. Which was a pretty perfect and playful moment.⠀

Almost every page of this book has at least one, if not three, blue square pieces of paper sticking out from it. A sign I’ll need to get my own copy to mark up and make notes in. I could have put together 32 different quote cards highlighting excerpts from this book, but I felt this one sums up the potency and impact of play nicely.⠀

play importance of play playtime and creativity playing is learningpng

Especially that last line “...we are designed by nature to flourish through play.” ⠀

I’ll admit I have moments where I’m playing and I feel dorky, out of place or even question if I’m being immature or impractical. But I know the urge to do it isn’t unnatural, it serves a purpose and the joy in it, is too lush to ignore. ⠀

If you're looking for a fun way to incorporate more PLAY into your life and work, you can download this FREE PLAY "BINGO" card I created. Fill in all the spaces of playful activities and adventures you want to try out this summer season.

Some playful ways I plan to savour this summer include...

Beach days with a good book, ripe watermelon slices and going home with a few new rocks. Snuggles at the drive-in while snacking on mint chocolate and cheesy popcorn. Naps in the hammock. Bonfires, s’mores and my best “you’re killing me smalls” impression. Bare feet and painting in the grass.

I hope you can make space for a little or a LOT of play this summer season too!

PSST. write back and tell me what's on your summer playlist!
